We absolutely should abolish the income tax, but we have to cut spending. Probably >90% of what the federal government does is unconstitutional. Some of the support programs will need to phase out because people need to learn to take care of themselves. On the otherhand we need to think like Benjamin Franklin who said, "The best thing we can do for the poor is to make them uncomfortable in their poverty."

I'd like to move towards eliminating almost all taxes, but the income tax (penalizing productivity), property taxes (rent), and inheritance taxes (punishing families for the death of a loved one) are the worst. As we wean the government off of taxes, I'd like to abolish all taxes at all levels of government except a sales tax. I want people to see how much they are being taxed with every purchase they make. A sales tax would also enable a person to avoid paying taxes by producing their own stuff and being self sufficient. Of course getting Congress to agree to sales tax only is probably not going to happen. It would have people complaining about government spending and the politicians would no longer be able to buy votes with the people's hard earned money.
