How is a 15 minute city any different from any other large city? Being from a small farming town of less than ten thousand residents, I was long ago shocked when I was first living in a big city. Nobody had any clue how to get anywhere outside a ten or fifteen minute radius from anywhere unless it was by public transport. They could tell me how to get into and out of the city center by train or how to get to the library by bus but not the next suburb over. Perplexed, I finally asked how it is no one knows how to get anywhere beyond a ten minute drive. The reply was, “Why should we? We can get everything we need and want in the area.” That was over 30 years ago. Cities not destroyed by rampant crime are even more “convenient” now. The suburb I Tokyo in which my family resides has all we need within a ten minute bicycle ride. It has been a long time since I have visited a shopping center that offered anything that those near home did not. All the same. All the same national brands and stores, or several of a larger group of similar national or international stores. This shopping mall may not have a MacDonalds but a Wendy’s and a Burger King with Mikey Dee’s just down the street. All do have a Starbucks and one of more of a handful of national or regional coffee houses.
As with the vaccine passports for international travel; redundant for visas perform the same function; the 15 minute city already exists. This should alert us to the fact that they will not be as advertised.
the difference, of course, is that NOW you are able to travel, at will, outside of your area in your city. you can even own and drive a car to where you want to go, at will. or fly in a plane outside of your area. when they require the plebs to live in 15-minute cities, you will only be able to travel outside your small area if you are granted PERMISSION from the bureaucracy (most likely applying to AI and being rejected). Because climate crisis (ostensibly), but really because CONTROL.
True. But for those of us already live in cities, the gates could easily be closed at a moments’s notice. Most are already tethered electronically allowing control through the their devices. Most will most likely accept their incarceration in the city as long as they can keep their idiot phones. The few of us drop our phones and make a break for it will stick out like a sore thumb and be rounded up easily, most likely with the help of our “follow citizens”.
That very well may be. However, I suspect that will happen after they get most of humanity living in them. I will say that despite the horrible economy in Japan made worse by the panic, there is a huge number of massive building projects all around Tokyo; both within the city and suburbs. I have long been wondering where the money for these was coming from and what is the purpose.
I mostly am concerned with the US, why is classified (I hate to say that). Cities. having just moved out of one, I was really living under a bridge. Cities gone, that will take time, they will have their 90%. The people in Flatlanf are also in places where they can 'disappear.' if they want. Yesterday I was wrapping Bison stew meat, Bison burgers and chicken breasts. That was after I repaired a vacuum, fed the chickens fed Ebbie our service dog. Checked the other Marines for intel. The money is coming from taxpayers who haven't awakened yet. The purpose I'm sure you can guess. Simply look at OBribem, ALL politicians want to line their pockets. Both sides of the aisle.
Teaching English, since July '22--and finding a number of local people who appreciate her gardening talents (forced upon her from toddlerdom by her mother)
Then she has not seen all the destruction caused by the covid mitigation measures. I had already lost over 1/3 of my income by then. Actually, by that time closer to half. A great many of the businesses I used to frequent and many I did not were already out of business by then too. Additionally, I would have been teaching all but one of my remaining classes all online for 2 and half years by then.
Oct. 2022 was the first matsuri (festival) at my cities main shrine since the same month of 2019. There were some tourists in the crowd who thoroughly enjoyed it. They could not know that in order to have the matsuri major changes had to be made that greatly finished what it was up to 2019. The big one that all could appreciate if they had been to a matsuri before was the complete absence of child participants. Their participation was banned. Other issues require insider knowledge to recognize. For many of the locals, it has been destroyed. Participation in last years matsuri around the city was quite different that just the year before. At least one matsuri group disbanded, one of its chief patrons having gone out of business the previous year was one factor.
I am glad she is loving her time in Japan and hope she continues to do so. However, the Japan she knows is not the Japan that existed before the panic.
Took my son to a test for his cram school yesterday. Hundreds and hundreds of examinees. including my son, I counted 6 unmasked children out of the hundreds I saw. Four of these were observed outside the test site’s (a college) gate and one or mare may have donned a mask upon enter the grounds of the building where the test was held. That none of the mask wearers would have taken theirs off is a certain. My son told me that he alone was the only unmasked test taker out of the approximately 120 in the room he tested in.
Is your daughter having to wear a mask in her classes? My med school and nursing school require them. I do not and fear losing this job too each time I go to the campus. I was at one time instructed by medical professionals to wear a mask in my own home for online classes for their school. I refused and was given special permission from the school to teach online classes from my own home bare faced. I hope your daughter has successfully evades such madness.
Prolonged masking leads to a lot of health problems. No matter, a large porting of the population of Japan, including foreign residents are still wearing masks. May 8th 2023 was when the Japanese government finally rescinded its recommendation to mask, yet 8 months later and roughly half still are wearing them.
Short answer, mad maskers are going to mask madly.

Exactly. That's why serious preppers don't live in cities. They've bugged out to the countryside a long time ago.
I'm very sorry to say this. good point but It doesn't matter, ALL CITIES are slated for destruction.

This is reminiscent, on a different scale, of the paucity of passports among American citizens, compared to other countries.
"This should alert us to the fact that they will not be as advertised." Also, daughter in Kanazawa, Ishikawa (and liking it).
As a tourist or living here?

Why was anyone masked? Prolonged exposure can lead to lung cancer.

Thank you so much for this long and informative reply. Would you permit me to send it to my daughter?
Sure. Or, you could follow Moonspinner’s advice.
Suggest that your daughter subscribe to Kitsune's substack. She'll learn a lot ...
