Simple explanation...Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis is inflammation of the outer lining of the heart. In both cases, the body's immune system causes inflammation in response to an infection or some other trigger. Myocarditis can lead to heart failure because the inflammation causes muscle scaring!

When your immune system starts forming IgG4 type immunoglobulins, it's essentially tapping out due to overstimulation by a given antigen.
