Wow! That Slovakia "women swatting' sure sounds like the very ancient (as in, probably long before time of Cicero/Caesar) Roman custom called Lupercalia. Women lined up on the streets. A priest of Lupercus, clothed only in a (wolf?) skin (lupus= wolf) ran through the streets with a whip (made of wolf skin?) swatting women. Those same tried to get in the way of the whip so that they would be touched by it. The touch of the whip promised fertility. This took place around middle February.
