Octopi do a pretty good job shifting shape as well as skin coloring to camouflage routinely and “normally” as they go about their business.

Nice! I think I just ran across a description of a butterfly fighting it’s way out of the protective sheath it developed in. Apparently it struggles to emerge, and that struggle is necessary because it helps the wings get pumped full of whatever fluids allow it to end up with the stiffness it needs to end up with wings it can fly on. If you were to attempt to “help” it avoid the struggle by cutting it free, it would end up with shriveled, malformed bags of wet laundry instead of beautiful wings. So I hear…
