It's OK Et - my wife is South African and we lived in Simons Town for 10 years 1999-2009. We had load shedding then but it's no problem - actually it's far better to be off-grid anyway. We have plenty of sun, solar, wind (plenty of that too) and local gas. I am spending £250/mth for electricity (inc. heating) in my tiny 2-bed lock-up-and-go cottage.
We only came back to UK to get my wife a British passport (SA is hopeless) and to sort my pensions/finance/family.
