In that year, there were roughly 12,000 wildfires and an estimated 7.5 million hectares of area was burned" (or ~18.5 acres). we got 10 MIL acres as of now ( 1 Hect = 2.47 acres) So not surpassed as 1989. IF this is all accurate. It still raises questions.
