WOW! Thank you for sending that. I hope my grandmother's house in Amarillo doesn't burn. It's over 100 years old and I love that house. There are not many trees out there in the panhandle, so I would think there is not much to burn uncontrollably.

In the Fritch, Borger, and Amarillo there are vast pieces of land with only field grass and only mesquite trees on it, so fires start there and burn everything in it's path and jumps highways to next open field! They used to have prescribed burns all the time. Very well planned and meticulously researched and thought out. If you read into alot of the wildfires in California one of the main issues that they were warned about was the importance of prescribed burns and the consequences of not doing them. The park service and Borger fire department always did a fantastic job at staying on that. I don't know what changed...possibly lost that funding part?! I sure hope your grandmother's house doesn't burn either! My husband and I just discussed yesterday how much we both absolutely love old houses! This new generation can have their white everything and white crown molding (no exposed wood) with tiny yards butted right up against next house comifornia style living! Amarillo has a ton of those communities now! Driving through you can't tell from rooftop from the next because they are so close. Just looks like one giant rooftop! Not for us that's for sure!
