the last 2.5 years have been really surprising in how the local Red State authorities have actually acted to prevent some specific government overreach here in Missouri.
I've lived here all my 49 years of existence, with the exception of working for two years in Colorado at the turn of the century, and it's been extremely rare that I've been able to back legislative actions here which weren't initiated by petition and referendum.
the governor, whom I have no love for regarding business and rich person legislation, even officially ended the Missouri-issued medical-excuse State of Emergency last August.
My medical board actually had the cojones to assert several months ago that they have jurisdiction over my speech (context: my discussing vitamin D and ivermectin on Substack). My attorney and I responded, with different levels of politeness: The hell you can do that! The board is still threatening to cancel my medical license over speech. They are still unsuccessful over several attempts.
They seem to want to re-write the Constitution to exclude healthcare personnel from the protections of the Bill of Rights. They will not succeed.
You can obviously see how us non-physician medical personnel would be much more intimidated by our various State Board threats, lacking resources for legal help and having zero faith in our professional organizations which consistently sold us out each and every time there was an opportunity to do so. (Example: Pharmacy will do the DURs for free!)

Yes, and like you say, people have to put food on the table, and can't risk job threats. So there is a real rock-and-a-hard-place problem, but only until a critical mass of healthcare workers say: No more!

That was a beautiful decision. Early in his opinion, the judge cited Montesquieu on separation of powers.
I wish Americans would read our own Constitution. Limiting powers of these bureaucrats is so essential that the founders made it Article 1.
