Dr Coleman has some good points but the fixation against remote medicine is ridiculous. I am thrilled to not have to drive many hours for a follow up "conversation". I've had a concierge doctor helping me by phone and email for years; I go in when it's possible (I often am traveling) and when it's necessary. I actually recently canceled an in person specialist appointment in lieu of a phone appointment because all we do is talk and it's is easier for me to take notes on the phone. I live in a small town with few doctors, but have consulted with many doctors and specialists around the country for various issues. Why should I have to fly there when there is no reason to be in person? And if I can fill out paperwork and do preliminaries from home prior to a hospital visit rather than spend more time in the cesspool that hospitals are, why not? Remote medicine finally gives me some of my own power instead of wasting my time doing uneccesary things as defined by some administrator or (usually bad) office manager.
