Visiting daughter and her family in England, Nov. '22. My granddaughter, sitting in the car beside her unjabbed American grandparents, piped up, in a rather excited tone, 'Mummy, shall I get my jab, now that I'm 12?" Yes, I was indeed quite frightened, as this child's question indicated the complete lack of awareness over there, at least in that particular family. This whole topic has been, in our family, the proverbial elephant, as daughter and husband had rushed out to get the AZ early in '21. Once, and only once, when jabs for kids arose in UK, I did, in an e-mail (thus, not confrontational), beg daughter not to do this to my grandchildren. She probably had no inkling of the 'why' of my request. However, on that November visit, I did broach the topic face-to-face, and daughter's response was that she and husband had no intention of the jab for their children. Which to my alert ears, suggested at least the beginning of awareness of danger. On the other hand, at dinner one evening the two younger children mentioned getting, in school that day, their flu shot---a nasal spray. I kept silent, though thinking, why on earth do a 5 and 8 year old need flu shots? (or anyone, for that matter--but that's another topic),
I would not have wanted to ask. Too delicate a topic. During that visit, Pfizer having already been required to make public its records (rather than waiting the desired 75 years), same child asked her father some question about Covid or vax ? His response: "We'll probably never know". My husband, child's Grandpa, somewhat less restrained than I, pointed out that the Pfizer records were already out and public. I relate this to emphasize the lack of awareness in that household.
Patti they do seek your permission for the flu vax and other stuff when the vaccinators come into school, mine never had it though.
Even when they were in high school I never gave permission and gave my two children strict orders not to take anything even if they had peer pressure or from the school, I told them to inform the school to contact me and I would sort it.
My two never had the coof jabs either, only person in our house who fell for that crap was my husband who I gave an ultimatum too.
My oldest has been getting flu shots since he was old enough to get them in Japan, which I think is from 2. Not happy. Wife, Japanese, and I have argued about it several times, especially since they still got the flu 2 years out of the first 4 they took it. Can’t really call in effective. But I was led to believe that it was required for school. The kid also got the Chicken Pox shot. Didn’t even know it existed until I saw it on his shot record. Why in the hell do we need a shot for chicken pox?
Thanks, more ammo for a fight that never will be. Not a negative comment on your efforts nor the article you send, just that I have never been able to bring the facts I have to near on any argument.
I have been offered the flu shot through work but do not take it. I have had the flu only 3 times as an adult, the last just a couple of months ago. Just a useless risk. Not happy my wife has our kids get it. She works for Pf, so it could be worse. They haven’t had the clot shot.
As did I and my siblings in the 70s. And for me at least, I did not even feel sick in the slightest. Only had these itchy bumps that would leave a scar if I popped them.
My grand father was saved by them. He escaped having them as a child and fought chicken pox while he was in the navy in WW2. He was in the navy hospital when his ship was sunk by a U-boat with only 3 survivors. Imagine if they had a vaccine against CP when he was young.
CP is one of those diseases that for most is little more than nothing but help train our immune systems. There is simply no need for a vaccine for it. Worse, it apparently increases the likelihood of catching it again in a different form later in life.
I’m in the UK. My kids were shamed at school by their friends because I didn’t allow them to have the jab. They thought I’d gone crazy. My daughter (now 16) is now listening to me, and is highly relieved I didn’t let her get it. My son still thinks I’m a lunatic but he’s 14 and everything I do is wrong at the moment. He’ll get there. He’s a bright boy, but at the age where he is just desperate to be like his friends.
Interestingly, his school are offering a screening for heart defects. Cardiac risk in the young (CRY). I filled in the form giving permission for him to have it, and a lot of the Qs relate to “did your son get the Covid vaccine.” And how many vaccines. And what sort. And have they had Covid.
Someone should check up on this charity’s data. It could be a goldmine of info.
Very good point--I hadn't thought of that. And youth cannot have wisdom, which only comes with the experience of age--although youth may have insight which appears to be wisdom.

Unbelievable. Did the school at least ask permission of the parents for that flu shot?

I have adult kids too, and agree that you have to be very judicious in deciding how to broach delicate topics.

Have a look at this massive NHS study that found flu vaccine has zero benefit in stopping hospitalisation or death from flu for the elderly.
They pump it into people but they know it provides no benefit.

Do not take any shots, vaccines, or otherwise.
I agree.
Too late. They are of the age that they have already had all the required shots for school.
I remember we all got it naturally as kids in the 60's and acquired lifelong immunity in the process.
