As did I and my siblings in the 70s. And for me at least, I did not even feel sick in the slightest. Only had these itchy bumps that would leave a scar if I popped them.

My grand father was saved by them. He escaped having them as a child and fought chicken pox while he was in the navy in WW2. He was in the navy hospital when his ship was sunk by a U-boat with only 3 survivors. Imagine if they had a vaccine against CP when he was young.

CP is one of those diseases that for most is little more than nothing but help train our immune systems. There is simply no need for a vaccine for it. Worse, it apparently increases the likelihood of catching it again in a different form later in life.
