Harari is a useless eater and to make himself useful I recommed that he be publicly executed after a show trial as an example of what will happen to all evil control freaks like himself.

I recommend no such thing. I recommend we be tolerant towards his views. That doesn't mean we accept them or like them. But in turn it means that he, or anyone else, has no right to impose his views and visions on the rest of humanity.

Technology and biotechnology will increase exponentially. We need a new Bill of Rights aimed at the abuse of technology, one that says, for example, that technology shall not be used to surveil the general population, a right that's likely already protected in the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution.

Technology should not be used to abuse, surveil, restrict movement of, cause violence to, or steal from the population. It should not be used to poison the commons. It should not be used surreptitiously and its uses should be transparent to public scrutiny and comment. It should not be used to make people "useless," and should take into account the demands of human dignity and self-determination.

Harari is pushing for a world of intolerance-- or minimal tolerance-- of those who refuse to go along with his program, whom he advises will be confined to the realm of the useless that have to be occupied by drugs and games. Who voted on that? How many of us agree to to have our children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren be among the useless that need drugs and games to keep us happy?

Perhaps it's best to ignore Harari, but for that he provides a quasi-philosophical/historical direction to the movement that wants to present sickness as health, and captivity as freedom.

The basic problem: an overbearing and powerful (and now, largely lawless) state can be manipulated behind the scenes by those seeking power and control, and the controllers are lusting after the awesome power technology promises. This program must be nipped in the bud.

Agree with your recommendation to be tolerant. He is not fortelling an impossible future, only an uncomfortable one to face. However his assumptions must be discussed and understood.

My worry is his assumptions may be accurate. Any existing Constitutional protections appear quite untethered already. It also appears technology is already being used to create sentiment profiles of most which can be used to evaluate how much room exists for those who pull the levers, or the rich, can go before gettijg too muvh pushback, and also the ability to directly target individuals to reduce their societal influence.

Transparency is a wonderful tool to societies can use to maintain visibility to how the world operates. Markets are corrupt without it, yet we see less and less as opposed to more as time progresses.

Those who believe their reputational and thus financial and familial futures rely on compliance or averting ones eyes to injustice are clearly willing to do so in large numbers already. When will enough be enough?

I suggest we have already arrived wherre you fear we will go. As the media, academic, governmental, industrial and other institutional organizations are already firmly in control, what is really left to protect those who would be impacted by more direct, restrictive and even violent actions done by our technology and by the military and/or police actions which follow to corral the "useless?" If watching provided "entertainment" or masterfully escaping with drugs or even being proficient at scoring in video games is all that can be pointed to as "of value," perhaps we've lost already and will end up with the society we deserve.

Perhaps the only answer is to not accept the label and be able to demonstrate the value of being free - but this means escaping the defiled and bastardized definition of value meaning what an indivividual provides to the economic output and never-ending growth. Instead the focus of value could be linked to realizing potential of creation amd co-creation that provides society with beauty and enlightenment and expansion of knowledge. What if harmonizing and nurturing and amplifying natures beauty was valued and rewarded? Living is an experience, and thus can it truly be useless? What could generating more love and tolerance and harmony and peace and health and joy lead to?

Harari clearly has low expections for humanity as a whole, as it seems most of our leaders now do. Why are we allowing them to make such decisions for us?

Expand full comment

Impose is a strong word. How do you see Harari imposing anything on anybody?

Expand full comment

He isn't by himself, but his thoughts are the philosophical foundation for the Great Reset, to the extent that it has a philosophical foundation. It is they-- the Reseters-- who wish to impose their vision, with moral justification provided by Harari's pseudo-philosophy.

Well, we have a right to reject technological control. We can opt for a world of people aided by technology, and reject a world of technology aided by people.

Expand full comment

I do not see where Harari has provided any moral justification. There is nothing moral about what Harari suggests and he knows it.

How do you propose we go about "rejecting technological control"? It is already here. It has been here for a long time. It is growing exponentially.

Harari uses the 'we' pronoun too much. I wonder if he's aware of it...or if it's actually deliberate?

Expand full comment

You are wrong, I have heard where he says with arrogance that it is ridiculous for people to believe in God! He says believing in God is a ridiculous notion! Does that sound familiar PrSmith you Substack imposter? If you look at history every Marxist, Communist regime's first order of business including the CCP of China is to get rid of God and Christianity because why? They want to replace God; so don't spout off with your Gaslighting coverup and put a sweet coating as to what is going on; my choices a.) Listen to a crazed homosexual like Harari who is headed straight for hell if he does not repent and ask Jesus for forgiveness or b.) continue to stay in the word of God and listen and discern the truth from the Bible!; Let's see that is a no Brainer it is Choice B.

Expand full comment

Belief in god is a personal decision. Atheists have been a thing at least since the first Century. I don't see any link between Harari's religious faith and his prognostications. If that's uncomfortable for you, then move along and find somebody you like. No harm, no foul.

Expand full comment

This would make for a long discussion ....

Basically Harari is suggesting that humans can be hacked and therefore should be hacked to improve the species, so there's an "ought" in there-- a moral term. Not that I agree that anything about it is moral, but in the minds of the Reseters there are all kinds of things they "should" (another moral word) do. For example, we should work to stop CO2 catastrophe. Of course there is no CO2 catastrophe, which brings us to the main point that all of their thinking and analysis is confused and most likely is designed to deceive us, so that we'll give them power over us "for the greater good."

Regarding technological control, as we become more aware of the harms of the so-called therapeutic measures (i.e., Covid vaccines) they're trying to push on us, of course we can reject these. We can reject CBDCs. Technology will advance but I think we need some sort of technological bill of rights, stating such things as technology may not be used to control, abuse, or surveil the population or to despoil the commons (air, water, land.) Such a bill of rights, or even thinking about it by the general population, is long overdue.

Expand full comment

I disagree completely. There is no ought either expressed or implied nor do humans have to be hacked. He is merely reading history and current events and projecting a likely outcome, a dearth of productive jobs that aren't done by AI/robotics...an outcome with which I agree. When there are no productive jobs for 75+% of humanity, we'll have a lot of people knitting, water coloring and playing the guitar...and fishing and playing baseball and football. That whole paragraph is out of left field...though the left likely wishes for that.

Sure, we can reject CBDC...but we won't. 'We' will demand it just as we demand that we support Ukraine and Israel and that we protect the world's shipping and that we upgrade and expand our electrical grid and on and on it goes. Heck, people have already bought into CBDC, I'll bet you carry a debit card in your wallet and that you write checks or use EFT for your bills. When our banks fail (or should I say continue to fail) and people can't get to their money, CBDC will sound great to them because they don't know the control they'll be giving up. There are forces out there trying to destroy the value of the dollar and it's working. My fear is that we'll never get to find out if AI/robotics is friend or foe because we'll be living in the 17th or 18th Century again. Maybe that's preferable.

A 'bill of rights' written by who? Enforced by who? This is not a US problem, this is a world problem and those who control the world, quite indifferent to our concerns or desires, are well on their way to a tyranny of the elite...the 'useful eaters'. If there is a bill of rights it is being expressed by the UN and by the WHO both of which, I believe, are being driven by 'higher powers'.

There are definitely plans but you and I aren't in it and I am pessimistic that we can stop it...as is Harari.

It is not 'his' definition but here is my unofficial definition which more accurately describes the class to which he refers than those found online (though they have a lesson to learn):

"A useful eater is a person who exchanges work for food while a useless eater is a person who is totally dependent on others for their needs."

The useless eater definition encompasses many classes of people like children, totally disabled and even politically 'incorrect'. Harari doesn't indicate how the useless eaters should be handled but history paints a bleak picture.

It is not the prognosticator you should fear, it is the elite who make the rules...like Hitler.
